Megaman Press Kits Going on Sale!Posted 4:32pm Thu Oct 09, 2008 by Ryan Fulton Tags: Megaman 9, Capcom, press kit

Are you the sort of person who really likes Megaman?  Like, really likes Megaman? Do you lie awake at night saying, "once, just once I'd love to get my hands on some random piece of schwag that members of the gaming press get regularly and toss aside like so much chattel"?

Well then you're in luck! For the super low asking price of $49.99 you too can have your very own Megman 9 press kit of the ages! That's a full $700 off. Just hit up the Capcom store directly after 6PM Eastern time and you may just get lucky enough to be able to buy one.  Be forewarned, supplies are limited and the fervor of retro gaming fans with too much money is not to be underestimated.

Good luck, god speed, etc.

Nintendo to Announce New Wii Colors Soon?Posted 2:14pm Mon Jan 14, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: rumor, Nintendo, Nintendo Wii, color, hardware, Target, depression

A Go Nintendo reader recently sent in an interesting tidbit regarding the Wii featuring a new array of colors.

Reader Andy works at a SuperTarget and has noticed that while the Wii's SKU (what the guy at the register scans to tell you how much you owe The Man) used to read "Wii Console" it now reads "Wii White". Similar scanning of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 does not include color options, leading one to believe that Nintendo just might be planning on announcing new color options for the much-sought-after Wii.

Here's the email that Andy sent in:

I work in the Electronics Department at a SuperTarget. Everything in Target has a DPCI number, which is kind of like a sku number. (For example, The number for the Wii is 207-25-0001) When an employee enters this number (either by hand or by scanning a barcode), it will give them the name of the item, price, location in the store, and a number of other details.

Here is what I find interesting: Before Christmas, when an employee would scan the Wii, “Wii Console” would come up as its “title”. However, I noticed that when scanning the Wii barcode, that, instead of “Wii Console”, “Wii White” would come up as the title instead. Attached is a picture of a location print-up which illustrates the “Wii White” title. I find this interesting because what made Target change the title from “Wii Console” to “Wii White”, unless there is another color coming soon. When a Playstation 3 is scanned, it doesn’t say “Playstation 3 40GB Black”, it just says “Playstation 3 40GB”. I’ve found Target to know about many things before they are released, such as having the iPods listed as “Discontinued” a week before the new ones were announced.

We all know that Nintendo has a habit of re-releasing hardware in snazzy new colors and "liter" designs to boost sales, and though we also know that it's a gimmick it's one thing to walk away from a Wii in white and quite another to pass on a black Wii with hot-pink trim and matching accessories.

My question is: if an announcement is impending, is that why Nintendo has had problems in getting Wiis to store shelves? Is a portion of the "so many Wiis made a month" figure going to, dare I say it, Wiis in different colors? Does this mean I'll have to get up at the crack of dawn to head to Target for a Wii either way?

I am simultaneously happy and depressed.

Associated Press Hates Manhunt 2, Lair: Worst of 07 ListPosted 12:05pm Thu Dec 27, 2007 by Shiva Stella Tags: Manhunt 2, Lair, Associated Press, worst of 2007
The Associated Press has published its list of worst games of 2007, with chart toppers including Manhunt 2 and Lair.

While most of the games on the AP list aren't of the best quality or the most enjoyable, the majority of the titles are just games that people are tired of hearing about - not necessarily the worst of the worst of 2007. You'll have to keep an eye on GameBump for that list...

AP's Worst of 2007:
  • Manhunt 2
  • Vampire Rain
  • Deal or No Deal
  • Lair
  • Escape from Bug Island!

Most Disappointing:
  • Halo 3
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Blue Dragon
  • Heavenly Sword

Enough Already:
  • Tony Hawk series
  • World Wrestling Entertainment games
  • Final Fantasy series

Worst Flaw in Great Game:
  • Inventory system in Mass Effect (agreed)

David Jaffe Keeps It RealzPosted 1:36pm Mon Dec 04, 2006 by Aaron Dunlap Tags: David Jaffe, God of War, videos, gametrailers.com, gaming press

At any media event where the press are allowed to interview game developers or executives (pretty much anybody but the booth babes) there will always be a marketing rep from his company standing right over his shoulder the whole time. This is a rule, and something we have to agree to, but it can get a bit tedious at times. It's like trying to talk to a girl at a bar when her parents and pastor are standing there making sure you stay on subject.

In the video below, someone from GameTrailers is interviewing David Jaffe, and Jaffe seems pretty annoyed by the Sony marketing rep standing there and by the very annoying line of questions.

The interviewer keeps trying to get Jaffe to "spill the beans" about God of War 3 when God of War 2 wont be on shelves for another 3 months. The game hasn't been approved for production yet, so it isn't as if David Jaffe is going to be able to say anything at all. All he wants to do is talk about God of War 2 (the game he just spent a year or so working on), and gaming journalists are trying to get the big scoop by having a developer talk about a game that hasn't been developed.

Jaffe handles it pretty well, considering. He dismisses the marketing bullshank being issued by his shoulder-perched marketing fairy and somewhere in there even acknowledges that his fighting system isn't as good as Devil May Cry (though I'd argue with anybody about that).

Imagine how much better things would be if gaming reporters weren't all trying to get some imaginary scoop and developers didn't have to be protected from that by marketing firewalls.
