Sony talks portable LittleBigPlanet, Guitar Hero/Rock BandPosted 10:20am Wed Nov 19, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: PSP, Sony, LittleBigPlanet, Guitar Hero, Rock Band

Rumors that LittleBigPlanet is getting a PSP iteration have been around since April and were recently strengthened by a rumor found within the pages of the latest Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), so MTV's Multiplayer Blog asked Sony's John Koller about the rumors during a phone interview yesterday.

Koller's comments from the story:

"'LittleBigPlanet’ is so expansionary. I think the developer’s really concentrating on right now making sure that the launched product is everything it could be and can be. We’re watching the UGC [user generated content] and seeing how that’s playing out. But for the future, I think certainly, we’d look at a wide variety of opportunities. Whether that’s the PSP or not, I can’t really say. We certainly look at ‘LittleBigPlanet’ franchise as a going forward franchise for us, and that speaks to the PlayStation brand overall.”

Multiplayer also asked Koller about the possibility of Rock Band or Guitar Hero hitting the PSP, as well:

Sony: 80% of PS3 users are "active" on PSNPosted 3:04pm Tue Nov 18, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Playstation 3, Playstation Network, Sony

In a post celebrating the second anniversary of the release of the PS3 on the official U.S. Playstation Blog yesterday, Sony's John Koller went through an extensive list of the system's achievements, but one that should draw your attention more than the others is this figure: 14 million "active" PSN accounts.

If Sony is to be believed, then this means that around 80% of PS3 owners are currently active on PSN, but chances are that this isn't the whole story. I'd be willing to bet that the 80% figure is counting people who have made an account, not just people who are actually using it on a regular basis, as I think that figure would be somewhat lower.

What do you guys think?

GB Review: Samba de Amigo (Wii)Posted 11:20am Tue Nov 18, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: review, sega, samba de amigo, wii, nintendo

While it was a great idea to bring Samba de Amigo, an old Dreamcast game in which you play Latin songs with two maraca peripherals, to the Wii, the final product suffers greatly from absurdly imprecise controls. It's difficult to have fun playing various tracks when you're frustrated to the point of violence at how hard it is to line up the Wii remote and nunchuck's cursors with the symbols on screen. Stay away unless you are really itching for yet another rhythm game to play.

score: 1 out of 5

Click here for an explanation of our review and scoring format.

Let me be honest: I never played the original Samba de Amigo. I don't know how fun it was, nor do I know whether or not this Wii port does a good job of replicating the original's gameplay. What I do know is that this version of the game isn't good.

My complaint has nothing to do with the colorful, friendly presentation or the cheesy Latin music or the dancing animals or the core gameplay element itself, even if it is a little antiquated in this new era of rhythm games. Nay, all my problems with this game boil down to one thing: controls.  This game controls horrendously, and it makes what could be a great experience into a nightmare.

Jimi Hendrix DLC not coming to WiiPosted 8:55pm Mon Nov 17, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Guitar Hero World Tour, Activision, Activision Blizzard, Nintendo, Wii

Turns out that the Wii won't be getting this week's Guitar Hero World Tour Jimi Hendrix pack after all, as a representative from Activision Blizzard has confirmed to MTV's Multiplayer Blog that the console won't be getting the download pack.

“Due to technical or licensing restrictions, the DLC offerings will not be the same for every console platform,” the representative told Multiplayer's Patrick Klepek. “For example, certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles and the Wii’s infrastructure only allows us the ability to release single songs as DLC.”

Valve offers "Complete Pack" for $99Posted 12:05am Mon Nov 17, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Valve, Steam

Valve, not to be outdone by themselves with the incredible value of the Orange Box, has announced that the Valve Complete Pack, which offers just about every title the developer/publisher has ever released, is now available on Steam for the low, low price of $99.

Why is that price so low? Because you're getting a package that would run about $235 if you bought each game separately. It's a great deal if you're interested in exploring Valve's back catalog or if you want to gift it to someone else.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts Text Difficult to Read on SDTVsPosted 5:28pm Wed Nov 05, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Banjoe Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Microsoft, Rare, Xbox 360

If you've yet to make the jump to a high-definition television, then you might be a bit disappointed with this news: Joystiq is reporting that the text for the upcoming 360 title Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is muddled when viewed on standard-definition televisions.

Worse yet, Rare has announced that they aren't planning to take action in order to fix it, stating that it would require too much "time, resources and money to alter."

While there are certainly many gamers who already own HDTVs, this should be a huge annoyance to those still relying on standard ones. It shall be interesting to note how this affects the November NPDs.
