Because nothing rings in a Tuesday quite like an official confirmation announcement, Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill Origins "is in fact currently in development for the PlayStation 2."

"Console gamers can now expect the same chilling, suspenseful and fear-filled experience that handheld gamers encountered when we released Silent Hill Origins on the PSP system," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.  "This is their chance to learn more of the mystery and mythos surrounding Silent Hill that's been hinted at in earlier games and made the series such a success."

Hit the jump for a juicy tidbits from Konami. The release date as listed on Gamefly and Amazon is now squeezed in between March 4-6, but Konami failed to mention a ship date in its announcement. We'll keep you updated, though.

News has recently hit the Web that Konami's Silent Hill Origins is definitely headed to the PlayStation 2.

The game is currently listed on Amazon and Gamefly with a March release, though the two sources disagree on a specific date - Gamefly lists it as March 31 while Amazon's is much sooner at March 4.

As usual, Konami has yet to give any official confirmation. The game is currently available on the PSP and has an average rating of 78% on metacritic, though it also carries an 89% from average users.

Handheld gamers feeling a little left out of this week's list of blockbuster releases can at least get their hands on Konami's Silent Hill Origins, which has shipped to North American retailers today.

The title is a PSP exclusive and "brings to North America the frightening and popular survival horror series with all new game play and a storyline set before the events of the original Silent Hill."

Konami today announced that The Silent Hill Experience for the PSP has shipped to retail stores nationwide. The Silent Hill Experience incorporates a variety of compelling media from the Silent Hill video game series such as comics, music and videos as well as exclusive interviews and content from the upcoming Silent Hill motion picture.

“A first-of-its-kind product for the PSP system, The Silent Hill Experience combines several forms of media into one enticing package and gives fans insight into the acclaimed video game series with comics, music and behind the scenes content,” said Wilson Cheng, Product Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Viewers can also get a sneak peek at the franchise’s debut on the silver screen with exclusive interviews that set the stage for the upcoming feature film.”

Providing viewers with a glimpse into the upcoming Silent Hill motion picture, The Silent Hill Experience features exclusive interviews with director Christophe Gans and Akira Yamaoka about the making of the film. The product also includes the theatrical trailer for the film. The game carries a SRP of $19.99.

Konami has announced that they plan to release a collection of Silent Hill games for the PlayStation 2.

The company plans to release The Silent Hill Collection which will include Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4: The Room. The announcement comes as an obvious correlated advertising campaign since a Hollywood movie is expected to release based on the Silent Hill franchise in late April.

The Silent Hill Collection is scheduled to release on April 13th for the PlayStation 2.
