Hey Young People, Would You Rather Buy a Car or a DS?Posted 6:00am Fri Nov 02, 2007 by Aaron Dunlap

Blame it on poor Japanese-English translation, I guess. I know there's some important information in here, about Nintendo's future plans, third party support, and the billion dollars in profits they've just reported, but I just keep getting hung up on lines like:
Q: I heard news that an increasing number of young people are buying DS instead of buying a car. If the budget to buy a car can be allocated for video games, you may be able to expect huge market impact where one can buy dozens of DS hardware units and hundreds of the software titles instead. If they stop purchasing cars, it will also do good in preventing global warming. From these perspectives, I am assuming that the aggregate market value of Nintendo’s stock could surpass that of Toyota Motor. What do you think of such an estimate?
I think that question has killed some small but vital section of my brain. Young people are buying Nintendo DS instead of buying a car? Right, like how I ate a chicken burrito instead of going to college.
Of course if we all bought video games instead of cars, global warming would probably go away; though I guess it'd be the only thing "going" anywhere, then.
This is clearly a question from somebody in the audience who was too excited to have been called on to think of a real question, like when I was at a press conference announcing the Wii system and, when asked if I had any questions, all I could think of to ask was whether all of the arm-waving from using the Wii remotes would cause the momentum of the Earth to alter.
It could happen.
